Dubai Attacks Amid Iran Conflict
Dubai and the United Arab Emirates have been directly affected by Iranian retaliation linked to the ongoing war between Iran, the United States and Israel. Since 28 February 2026, Iran has launched waves of missiles and drones at Gulf states hosting US forces, including the UAE. Emirati air defences have intercepted the bulk of incoming weapons, but debris and falling fragments have caused real damage and civilian harm. Officials say around 3 people were killed and about 58 injured in the UAE as a result of these strikes.
In Dubai, strikes have damaged major infrastructure such as Dubai International Airport and parts of the Burj Al Arab hotel, while fires were reported near Palm Jumeirah after intercepted drones and missiles fell into urban areas.
These attacks have had major ripple effects on travel and tourism. Dubai’s airport, normally one of the busiest in the world, saw significant disruption with flights cancelled or delayed and travellers stranded, as airspace closure orders affected the wider Middle East corridor.
Residents reported loud explosions, intercepted weapons overhead and an atmosphere of panic and uncertainty. Reuters noted that some people rushed for cover while others stocked up on supplies as debris fell and sirens echoed across the city.
The UAE government and Gulf Cooperation Council states have condemned the attacks as violations of sovereignty and vowed to protect civilians while calling for de-escalation.
