India Launches $1.2B AI Mission to Supercharge Tech Sector
India is making a major AI push. The government has approved ₹10,300 crore (about $1.2 billion) for the IndiaAI Mission, a nationwide plan aimed at boosting AI startups, research, and computing infrastructure.
The initiative includes building a large AI compute network with 10,000+ GPUs, creating an IndiaAI Innovation Centre, expanding datasets for research, and funding startups developing AI solutions.
Officials say the program will help India develop home-grown AI models, strengthen its digital economy, and support education and skills programs to train the next generation of AI engineers.
The move highlights India’s ambition to compete globally in artificial intelligence while encouraging public-private partnerships and responsible AI development.
