Nightmare Fuel: Woman Sneezes Out Maggots After Fly Larvae Infest Her Sinuses 😳
Doctors have documented a disturbing medical case after a 58-year-old woman reportedly sneezed out live maggots that had been growing inside her nasal cavity.
The cause was traced to the sheep bot fly (Oestrus ovis), a parasite normally found in sheep and goats. Experts believe the woman was exposed while working outdoors near livestock, where flies can deposit larvae near the nose.
Normally, humans are accidental hosts and the larvae don’t survive long. But in this case doctors say the larvae became trapped in her sinuses, likely due to a severely deviated septum, allowing them to develop longer than expected.
Weeks after exposure the woman began experiencing sinus irritation and coughing. During a violent sneeze she suddenly expelled what she thought were worms.
Medical examination confirmed they were maggots living inside the maxillary sinus, a rare condition known as nasal myiasis.
Doctors removed the larvae and treated the infection, and the patient fully recovered without lasting complications.
While extremely rare, the case is a reminder that parasites can occasionally infect humans—especially after exposure to flies in rural or livestock environments.
Sometimes the strangest medical stories… are real.
