Reuters says disruption around the Strait of Hormuz has already pushed urea prices up 30% to 40%, with about 30% of globally traded fertiliser moving through the route. AHDB says higher oil prices are hitting farms through fuel, transport and agrochemicals, with red diesel rising faster than white diesel. UK inflation was already at 3.0% in January. So this is not landing on a calm economy. It is landing on one that was already under pressure. If this disruption drags on, the next price shock may not start at the petrol station. It may hit in the supermarket aisle.
