McKinsey Report: AI Agents Expected to Handle 45% of All Knowledge Work by 2028
A new McKinsey Global Institute report forecasts that autonomous AI agents will perform nearly half of all knowledge-work tasks by 2028, with the biggest impacts in software engineering, customer service, and financial analysis. The study calls for urgent corporate investment in “human-AI orchestration” skills to avoid widespread disruption while capturing productivity gains estimated at $4.4 trillion annually.
